What is stock picking about?

  • This is a great opportunity to see how investment professionals go about deciding what stocks they should buy. It will be useful both for those considering careers in investment and for those wanting to make money for themselves!

  • This competition is linked to our Equity Research Associate Internship Programme in the Hong Kong and Shanghai offices.

 

How do I participate in the competition?

  • Follow the Stock Pitching Guidelines below and submit your entry in English as a word document (.docx) template below in our event page via this link by 11:59pm - local time Wednesday, 7 October 2026.
  • Our Investment Professionals will shortlist the finalists from all entries, and successful candidates from Mainland China will be notified between 13 - 16 October 2026 (Tuesday to Friday).
  • Finalists from Hong Kong and overseas universities will be notified in mid to late October and will be invited to present either in person at our Hong Kong office or virtually.
  • All finalists will be given approximately five days to prepare for their final presentation.
  • Entries Close
    11:59pm (local time), Wednesday, 7 October 2026
    Participants must submit an English stock recommendation document by the deadline.
  • Finalist Selection
    13-16 October 2026 (Tuesday to Friday)
    Approximately 3-5 students from each university will be shortlisted to progress to the final round.
  • Final Presentation
    Week commencing 19 October 2026 (In-person Session)
    Each finalist will present their stock recommendation to a panel of Fidelity investment professionals. One overall winner will be selected.

Presentation Format

  • 5–10-minute presentation
  • 5-minute Q&A session

Why participate?

  • Experience the intensity, depth, and breadth of questions posted by top investment professionals and network with investment professionals from Fidelity.

  • The shortlisted entries will be fast-tracked to CV review stage. The winner and any particularly impressive finalists will proceed to the final round interview for our Equity Research Internship Programme.

 

If I don’t participate in the game, can I join the Fidelity Stock Pitch Presentation as a spectator?

  • You are invited to join us as an audience even if you don’t participate in the stock pitching competition. There will also be a session on company introduction and Early Careers Programme overview. Please register for the event page in our career website.

 

Submission criteria

  • The company must be a listed equity (i.e., no pre-IPOs, no funds, no derivatives, no bonds, no commodities etc) with market capitalization over US$200m.

  • The stock must be liquid, subject to a 3-month average daily trading volume of US$1m per day.

 

  • Please make sure your stock pitch is limited to 3 pages and follow the template on our website.

 

Issues to be addressed in the stock pitch

  • The target price must be clearly stated.
  • The stock pitcher should be comfortable holding the stock in a 1-2 years’ horizon (i.e., not just a quick trade).
  • What is the valuation relative to peers and to history?
  • What are the key drivers for the sector?
  • How does the company make money?
  • Why do you see value that the market doesn’t?
  • What is the justification for your growth rate projections etc.?
  • The 3-month average daily trading volume should be stated
  • What are the risks against your recommendation

  • Tuesday, 20th October - Room A503, Jianhua Building, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University
  • Wednesday, 21st October - Room A511, Pao Yue-kong Library, Xuhui Campus, Shanghai Jiao Tong University
  • Thursday, 22nd October - Student Center, School of Economics, Podium Building, Fudan University 
  • Students from other universities will be invited to deliver their final presentations either at our Hong Kong office or via a virtual session. Further details will be provided in due course
