Who we are:

We’ve been helping clients plan and save for their futures for over 50 years. From more than 25 locations around the world, we provide investment services and retirement expertise to everyone from central banks to private individuals.

As part of our commitment to making things better, we’re continually exploring technology and different ways of working to put our clients first. Digital here isn’t just changing how we provide services – it’s changing everything.

The Programme you’ll join:

We don’t expect you to come straight in and know everything about what we do.

As an industrial placement student, and whatever you’re studying, we’ll help make sure you get the most out of your time with us. Fidelity is a fantastic place to learn, innovate and grow. There are expert colleagues around the world to learn from and share ideas with.

Our expert Technology team empower our people and support our progress all around the world. They develop the applications and infrastructure that underpin everything from trading and operations to compliance and customer service. And they’re always searching for new and better ideas.

During the 12-month Industrial Placement programme - Data and Business Analyst stream, you will help to connect the worlds of technology and business. Data and Business Analysts ensure that both sides can communicate effectively and understand each other. You will develop a deep understanding of our inhouse software and check that any modification we make is understood and agreed by both sides, and you will facilitate this change. You will use your problem solving skills to help manage data and use insights from this data to suggest and help implement enhancements to our systems and processes and establish better links between our teams.

To do this, you will meet regularly and develop strong relationships with our business, sales, and investment teams to learn more about the challenges they and our clients are facing. You will use your analytical skills to translate these issues and communicate clear requirements for our engineering and development teams.

The difference you’ll make:

You’ll contribute to positive, meaningful work that make a difference to our clients and employees. You’ll provide invaluable support to your team, too. Depending on the team you join, this may include:

  • Exposure to several central functions teams that support the 800+ global ISS Technology team, including financial forecasting, change oversight and planning, communications, risk, and audit.
  • Learning how to use analytics and management information tools to develop data visualisations and dashboards to effectively present your ideas and thoughts to large audiences.
  • Learn how to manage and document technical meetings successfully capturing issues, enhancements, and action points.
  • Use statistics and data visualization skills to report on results of on-going operations and projects, as required
  • Supporting the team of highly skilled data engineers that are building our future state data platform on Cloud.
  • Learning about Investment Data analysis & defining logical data models that integrate data from multiple data sources into a central repository and distribute consistently via a suite of APIs.
  • Learning how to apply data cleansing and data standardisation rules, providing clear documentation of the business rules embedded in the system.
  • Working closely to understand data journeys required to support our future products and services.
  • Writing and maintaining documentation to provide transparency and maintain the knowledge base

 How you’ll be supported:

You’ll start with a welcome and an orientation, where you’ll meet your fellow Industrial Placement students and find out all about us and our work. After that, there are many more ways to develop your skills as your placement progresses including completing of Unit 1 of the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC).

Once the programme begins, you’ll learn every day – from the experts around you and through tackling real projects. Our focus will be on supporting you to gain experience and discover what kind of future you could build in our industry.

Support is part of our culture, so you’ll have a buddy and a mentor to help you whenever you need. And you’ll join a close-knit early careers community, with plenty of social and networking events to help you find your feet and feel at home.

What we look for:

It’s who you are that matters here, rather than what you studied.

We look for interns who are analytical, eager to learn and ready to take on a challenge. A genuine curiosity and eagerness to learn about technology is vital, as is a lively interest in our work and our industry. Creative thinking and the ability to build and develop relationships with colleagues is important to.

We welcome applications from students from ALL degree backgrounds; you do not need a technology related degree. If you’re inquisitive and ambitious, a placement at Fidelity is a great opportunity to discover whether this kind of work is for you.

And, as we’re an international organisation, we’ll need you to speak English.

We’ll also need you to:

  • be graduating in 2025 (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree)
  • have the right to work in the UK at point of application. If you are currently on a Tier 4 / Student Visa, this means you have the right to work in the UK

Our clients come from all walks of life and so do we.  We are proud of our inclusive culture and encourage applications from the widest mix of talent, whatever your age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, social background and more.

As a flexible employer, we trust our people to perform their role in the way that works best for them, our clients, and our business. We are a disability-friendly company and would welcome a conversation with you if you feel you might benefit from any reasonable adjustments to perform to the best of your ability during the recruitment process and beyond.
