Equity Research - Intern Programme

We call our front-office business Asset Management because it's where our investment decisions are made. When those decisions relate to stocks then it's our Equity team making them. How do they choose the best stocks to invest in? Here’s your chance to spend the summer finding out.

What you'll be doing:

In Equity Research you’ll learn how our Analysts formulate investment theses in order to advise Portfolio Managers. You’ll be given stocks of your own to research, and you’ll be mentored by a Director of Research. Over the course of an 8-week programme, you’ll research four individual stocks and present your findings to a panel of senior investors. If you show promise and improvement over the course of the summer, you could be offered a place on our graduate programme. We have opportunities in the UK and Asia, so please apply to your location of choice. Please note, this is an application for our Equity Research Intern Programme 2020 based in the UK.

Who we look for: Alongside a thirst for knowledge, you’ll need impressive analytical skills and a commercial acumen to take advantage of the training and mentoring we’ll give you. You’ll also need the tenacity and confidence to communicate your position on a stock and justify your thinking (often with imperfect information). You don’t need to study a specific subject to have a career in asset management – the people who work here bring a diverse mix of qualifications and experience. If you think of yourself as intellectually curious and ambitious, an internship at Fidelity International is a great opportunity to discover whether this kind of work is for you. You will be in your penultimate year and need to have a minimum of ABB at A level or equivalent and achieved (or be on track for) a 2:1 or above.

Your training and development: We don't expect you to come straight in and know everything about what we do. You'll start the internship with a mini induction, during which we'll introduce you to asset management and how it fits into the City, as well as to the broader financial markets. We will then provide you with core financial modelling and company valuation training. After that, there are many more ways to develop your skills as your internship progresses. A series of 'lunch and learns' hosted by key business speakers including portfolio managers will give you a first-hand, genuine insight into the full scope of each of our businesses. Social and networking events will help you get to know our people and our culture. All the while you'll be learning on the job, working to clear goals and showing us you deserve a place on our graduate programme.
