About Fidelity International

Fidelity International provides world class investment solutions and retirement expertise to institutions, individuals and their advisers - to help our clients build better futures for themselves and generations to come. As a private company we think generationally and invest for the long term. Helping clients to save for retirement and other long term investing objectives has been at the core of our business for nearly 50 years.

Technology

The Technology services we provide underpin every area of the global Fidelity business.

What do we do?

The technology services we provide underpin every area of the global Fidelity business: investment, revenue, operations, compliance, finance, legal, marketing and customer service. Beyond this, we provide day-to- day infrastructure services including data centres, networks, proximity services, security, voice, incident management and remediation.

Delivery Support

This project delivery function supports the business by managing the delivery of infrastructure elements of change projects, along with the management of end-to-end technology infrastructure projects and their portfolios. Typically this equates to either running or supporting between 210-240 projects.

Platform & Storage

The 'Platform and Storage' infrastructure group is responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, support and maintenance of the underlying 'infrastructure' elements, of every application and service hosted within FIL.

Technology Infrastructure Services (TIS)

TIS are committed to delivering technology infrastructure services to its clients, both internally within Fidelity International and its external clients, to support them in achieving their business strategies and goals within the context of the overall Fidelity International technology strategy. Responsibility for a range of services covering design, engineering, collaboration technologies and big data as well as implementation and operational support for infrastructure related to cloud platforms, digital, web and middleware.

Service Management

The TIS service management team comprises several separate functions that provide centralised services to technology and the wider business. These services comprise Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Bridge Operations, support and administration of ServiceNow, Service Delivery Management, the Service Desk, Environment Scheduling and Production Acceptance.

Meet the team

It’s important to us that every single one of our 7000 employees has a great experience at Fidelity. Here’s what some of the technology team think of life here.

"I developed ten Android applications over my time at Fidelity which are now available to 7,000 employees worldwide"

Zach - Technology Industrial Placement (Queen Mary, University of London - Computer Science and Multimedia)

"I really enjoy being able to learn and gain knowledge and skills in both technology and finance. I like the fact that what I do has an instant impact on the business"

Luhua - Technology Graduate (Imperial College London - Electrical & Electronic Engineering with Management)

What will I be doing?

Over your one year industrial placement you will be based in one of our three offices in London, Kent or Surrey, where you’ll not only learn how technology makes our organisation work better, but also build your knowledge of the business itself.

Networking

You’ll work with colleagues in multiple business areas, as well as those across the wider technology group, and gain a breadth of insight into how we operate as a business while networking with senior managers from day one.

Training

Throughout your industrial placement your development will be underpinned by the best training and professional certified courses, with the aim of employing you full-time once you have completed your degree. This will involve the option of completing the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC) and a bespoke professional industry qualification.

Experience

Depending on your role and the team you join, you’ll work with various business teams to understand and document their needs, then liaise with developers and system architects to clearly define those requirements and implement solutions to meet them. You’ll gain a wide range of experience from development and testing to problem resolutions and solution design.

What we look for

You do not need a technology related degree. We want people that are interested in both the industry and the sector but ultimately those with the intellectual curiosity for progression and evolution. People with an innovative and inquisitive disposition are those best suited for our industrial placements as your year long journey with us will help us explore your skillsets and for you to explore our world.

Thirst for knowledge

You will be highly driven with intellectual curiosity for progression and evolution with an absolute commitment to serving the best interests of our clients. You’ll have the analytical skills to understand the business and make informed suggestions.

Build Networks

You will have the ability to build your network with individuals from a range of business cultures and backgrounds both internally and externally.

Innovative and Inquisitive

People with an innovative and inquisitive disposition are those best suited for our industrial placements as you explore existing and new technologies.

Sandwich year / Deferred year

You will be on a sandwich degree course which requires a 12 month industrial placement between 2018 and 2019 or will have sought written permission from your University for a deferred year. You will have a minimum of three C’s at A level or equivalent and be on track for at least a 2:1 degree (or equivalent).

Learning and development

Your development is heavily invested in from day one with the aim of preparing you for a career within Fidelity International once your studies are completed. We have opportunities in Technology Infrastructure Services (TIS), Delivery and Architecture and we will ask you to state your preferences through the recruitment process.

Qualifications

The industrial placement is a chance to get a broad understanding of what we do as a function and how this links with Fidelity International as a whole. If successful and you return for the graduate programme, in your first year, you will complete the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and in your second year, you will have the opportunity to study towards the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification.

Salary and benefits

We invest a lot of time and resource into our industrial placement students, ensuring you receive a really strong remuneration package including salary and lifestyle benefits. You will receive an annual salary of £30,000. You are also eligible for an end of contract bonus of £1,000 in addition to enrolment onto our pension plan, life assurance, private healthcare and 23 days’ annual leave entitlement.

Application process

We like candidates with multiple skillsets, which is why the recruitment process will look to have assessments and questions that will aim to highlight your work ethic, personality and potential.

Online application

We value the different ways that people think. Don’t tell us what you think we want to hear - it’s not what you choose to write about that matters but how you articulate your thoughts. We will be looking for you to provide your answers via previous examples from school, college, employment, voluntary work or societies, sports or clubs you may have been involved with. You don’t have to do this all in one go – you can save and log in as many times as you want with your username and password.

You will need to:
- answer three questions to support your application
- provide an up-to-date CV

Online testing

There is one online test to complete. The inductive reasoning test is focused on logical thinking and how you can work flexibly with unfamiliar information to find solutions to problems.

Phone interview

If your application is successful, we will ask you to complete a motivation-based telephone interview, lasting approximately 30 minutes. We’ll ask you why Technology within Fidelity International appeals to you, as well as learning more about your background and skills, and how you have previously used these skills to good effect.

Face to face interview

We are a little bit different to other businesses. We want to meet you and learn more about you before inviting you to an assessment day. This stage would be an opportunity to come into our offices, meet a Fidelity representative face-to-face and learn more about the business.

Assessment centre

During the assessment, you will be involved in a combination of a group exercise, an interview and an analysis exercise.

Offer

Stand out at the assessment centre and we’ll offer you a place on our industrial placement programme starting on 25th June 2018. You’ll have two weeks from the day you receive your offer to make a decision. We will assign you a current technology graduate as a buddy to help with your decision making. This individual will also be on hand for help, support and guidance throughout the year you spend with us.

Internship/Placement

This Programme is closed to applications.
